To prepare for beginning John Steinbeck's The Pearl next week, please give a thoughtful response to the question below, if possible during class on September 11, but no later than Sunday, September 13.
How would your life change if you suddenly acquired a fortune through an unexpected inheritance, a lottery win, or finding and selling a valuable artifact? Would it alter your life plans? Would you start to live your life differently? Would it change you as a person? Would it change your relationships?
I think if I came into a large sum of money, it wouldn't really change me, or my relationships. But it might change my life because I would buy a lot of things, and I might save some money for college..maybe.
ReplyDeleteIt would change the way I live, but it would not likely change who I am, I would mainly live my life differently because I would not have to work as hard to live the way I enjoy. I would probably donate a lot of the money to charities as well.

ReplyDeleteIf i got a lot of money i would probably save it. Well, i'd buy myself a nice car first, and then i would put it away. Then i could save it and retire with a bunch of money. After 20 or 30 years, the interest could make it even more.
ReplyDeleteI think if I got a large amount of money I would still keep my goals because I want to be an athletic trainer, and they don't make too much money, so I would use the large amount of money to pay for college and maintain a normal life sytle. It possibly might change my relationship with my parents because I would try to gibe back to them too.
ReplyDeletei dont think it would change me as a person, i feel like i'd get greedy and want more and more stuff since i have enough money to buy it all but i would have the same personality and still have the same good friends. i think that i would still be the same person that i am right now just with more money and nicer things.
ReplyDeleteI think that if I came into a large sum of money I wouldn't exactly know what to do at first. It would affect my life because I would want to go on a huge shopping spree and spend all of it. Like morgan said I would probably save some for college. It would alter my life plans slightly because I would have more money to do other things. Knowing me I would probably start living differently, the money changing my attitude and outlook. I don't think it would change my relationships though. I might make more.
ReplyDeleteIF I got a whole lot of money I would spend it and invest most of it. I would give some to my good friends and enjoy the rest.My life would change allot because I would be rich and have money to spend on more expensive thing like cars and a house.
ReplyDeleteI think that if I found a huge amount of money my life would be different. I would be able to get whatever I wanted but I think I would try to save the money. I hope I would not change into a greedy person who needs and wants everything.
ReplyDeleteIf I came into an unexpected fortune, my whole life would change. I would probably decide to work less, and just depend on my money to get me places in life. I would act the same but I know I would be able to get anything I wanted and I would probably buy lots of food. The relationships I have with people could become 'fake' or people might try to use me for my large sum of money.
ReplyDeleteIf I all of a sudden aquired a loarge amount of money, my life would effienetely change. While I'm not poor I really don't have that much money. I would probably get a lot more things. I would try to be very careful to not let the money get to my head though. I hate it when people with money think that they are better than every once else just because they can afford nice things. I wouldn't just ignore it because that would just be foolish to ignore huge amounts of money that are in your complete and total control. I would try to help everybody in my family out first but then I would deffinetely have some fun.

I would probably end up studying abroad and traveling all over the world to places such as: Ireland, Scottland and Finland. I would save most of the money so i could pay for college and all the expenses that comes with that.I dont think it would change me as a person or effect any of my relationships with others because money has never had a big impact on my life.
ReplyDeleteIf i happen upon a large amount of money it would change my life. It may change my life but it won't change me or my relationship with others. I would buy things i need and save the rest for college or for the future if i want to open up a business or something. It might change little things in my life like i finally am able to help my parents by giving them part of the money.

ReplyDeleteIf I suddenly got a lot of money I think that it wouldn't alter my life plans because I would still want to have a career as an adult. Also, I think it would inspire me to change the way I live. I would spend money more freely and buy more nice things. Also I would probably change as a person because I would get used to having a lot of money and I would probably start to take everything I had for granted. Also I think that I would probably start to form relationships that were a lot more shallow then my current relationships.

ReplyDeleteIf i inherited alot of money it would change the way i would live but not the person i am. I would still treat people the same and i would donate money to charities. Because there are more pople who need money so they can change there lives. I would also save it for things i really need such as college and other neccesities.
ReplyDeleteIf I suddenly got a lot of money, my life might change but i don't think I would act differently. My family would probably move to the mountains or possibly the beach. I think I personaly would not change that much because I never have cared about the most expensive things or the lastest items on sale. I would probably save alot of the money and only spend a little of it on the things i want most in life.

ReplyDeleteI think my life will be very altered by a large sum of money but i dont think i will be changed as a person. i wouldnt have to worry about what i will do for work in the future and i wouldnt worry about getting a scholarship.
ReplyDeleteMoney can buy somewhat of happiness although, money cannot buy happiness of things that dont have prices or things that dont consist of money.such as an illness that isnt curable.

ReplyDeleteI think if i suddenly acquired a fortune, my life, and future plans would change. I would probably live my life a little different, but not much. I would give a lot of money away to charities, and other beneficial causes. I would also use some of this fortune for college. I would still want to go to a good college and find a career that i would enjoy. This may change my relationships a little, but not dramatically.
